Miss Mechanic has begun her home school curriculum for the year. Actually she is finishing up with last years as we wait for her new stuff to come in. She is very motivated and seems to have matured. I hope I won't have the same arguments we had last year.
We are currently finishing up Calvert 5th with 6th grade Math. I have already ordered her Calvert 6th.
We modify the writing assignments -- many are just too dry for her. So last year I put together a writing program for her. This year Calvert uses Elements in Language for the writing and grammar, I thought I would wait till that gets here and see how that goes. Otherwise I will create my own program, based on state standards and MM interests. I have thought about getting IEW, but feel like that teaches writing in such a prescribed method. I don't know. We'll wait and see what happens.
The math we were not as far along in, so she will work on her Calvert Math 6 until finished. Then we will evaluate her progress and decide whether to go with an additional 6th grade math, or order the next level of Calvert.
We don't use the Art History in Calvert. MM just could never get interested. We do use the Discoveries in Art video course and lots of hands on experience. MM loves art!
Reading is no problem, but I think we will work on reading aloud daily, I have found that she still mispronounces words. Her comprehension is good though, so I am happy about that.
Well back to school!
